Who are we?
First, and foremost, we are motorcycle travel enthusiasts and we have quite a lot of experience in this field.
The story of Maarten
As soon as it was legal, at 16 on a moped and finally at 18 on a real motorcycle (a Laverda SF750) Maarten traveled around Europe.
When he thought he had seen it all, he turned his frontwheel east and kept on riding until, more than a year later, he found himself in Australia, where he worked as a cowboy, mustering cattle on, how could it be any other way, a motorcycle.
Since retracing his steps was not the way he did things, he hopped over to south America and after reaching the most southern edge of the world, he rode north until it got too cold… in Alaska.
He decided to “settle down” in Bolivia, where he did what he loved most, ride around the most awesome scenery, and showing it to others as a motorcycle tour-guide.
But ever since he had left Europe, the feeling that it was one of the best motorcycle-places in the world kept on growing inside him, until it could no longer be contained.
He had no other choice than return and do what he does best: Ride his motorcycle in search of the most awesome roads and most beautiful places, and share them with other motorcycle enthusiasts.
The story of Thip
Being born in Thailand is no advantage for someone who is curious about the world, but Thip was determined to go and see it all.
She worked her way up as a hotel receptionist from single star “dives” until she ran the lobby of a prestigious 5 star hotel in Bangkok.
Her next step was to enlist on a cruise-ship in Miami and all was set and arranged when she met Maarten and fell hopelessly in love.
She moved to Bolivia with him and spend her life exploring every nook and cranny of this spectacular country, and its neighbors Chile, Argentina and Peru.
The next adventure was an overland journey from her homeland Thailand to Europe and once she had set foot, or better “wheel” in this old continent, she was hooked.
And so, together They build a base in Spain from where the best and most spectacular roads and sceneries are explored, mapped and crafted into absolutely unforgettable motorcycle tours.
And this is how Motorcycle Touring Europe was born.
